In Uganda’s increasingly capitalist and market-driven economy, the demand for fast, efficient transportation to support commerce and mobility has led to rising pressure on the road infrastructure and transport systems. As businesses seek to maximize profit and delivery speed, and individuals strive to compete in a fast-paced economic environment, road safety is often compromised.
Commercial drivers face long working hours with minimal rest; overloaded and poorly maintained vehicles are common; and profit-driven transport companies may neglect safety regulations in favor of cutting costs. Meanwhile, public investment in road safety awareness, traffic law enforcement, and infrastructure development has lagged behind economic expansion.
These trends contribute to high rates of road traffic accidents, injuries, and fatalities, disproportionately affecting the poor, pedestrians, motorcyclists, and passengers in informal transport systems.

To promote a culture of road safety and responsible transport in Uganda, by addressing the negative impacts of capitalist pressures that compromise public safety for profit.
