Human-Centered Tech Transition And Digital Literacy

In a rapidly advancing, market-driven global economy, the adoption of technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping labor markets and economic systems. While digital innovation promises improved efficiency and new opportunities, it also threatens to displace workers, widen inequality, and concentrate power and wealth in the hands of a few tech-driven enterprises.
In low- and middle-income countries like Uganda, the risk is particularly acute: many jobs are vulnerable to automation, and large segments of the workforce lack the skills needed to compete in a digitally driven economy. Without deliberate intervention, capitalism’s push for technological efficiency may deepen poverty, increase unemployment, and marginalize the already vulnerable.
This program addresses these concerns by ensuring that technology and AI serve people not replace them and by supporting inclusive digital transformation that preserves dignity, livelihoods, and opportunity.
Program Goal
To ensure that the development and deployment of technology and AI in Uganda is inclusive, ethical, and human-centered, with a focus on protecting employment and livelihoods in a market-driven society.
Objectives
Expected Outcomes
- Increased digital and AI literacy among vulnerable populations.
- Reduced job displacement through proactive skills development and transition programs.
- Improved regulation and accountability in the deployment of AI and labor-displacing technologies.
- A national discourse and policy environment that puts people at the center of technological progress.
